Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
I have worked at law firms since 1985, practicing lawyer since 1987.
What is your primary product or service?
Abe Lincoln said a lawyer's time is his stock and trade. I typically sell my time and expertise on an hourly basis to clients who need a lawyer who needs that expertise and wants a lawyer experienced in trials.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Both of my great grandfathers were lawyers, one of them a judge and the other a clerk for a US Supreme Court justice, and my grandfather was a lawyer (and judge). I have always been interested in law and in college I was a Speech Communication major and studied persuasion. I also have an interest in writing and was a staff writer for a 26,000 circulation daily newspaper and then was on Law Review in Law School. My interest in trial law developed from working at a trial law firm.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
There are not many lawyers who try civil lawsuits, and even fewer that try 8-10 cases per year to a jury verdict. My experience assists me in evaluating cases and giving clients advice and settling cases, and if not then taking cases to trial to be decided by a jury. I am one of a very small number of lawyers in Massachusetts who is oard certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (a private organization accredited by the American Bar Association) as a Civil Trial Advocate.
